Official Campaign Settings (that are not the Forgotten Realms)

5. Ravenloft - This is horror, through and through. Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft provides plenty of Domains of Dread to choose from but also has clear guidelines to create a brand new one to fit your campaign. One of Fifth Editions most popular modules, The Curse of Strahd is set here. Use that as a jumping off point or just some inspiration. Just make sure to have a Session Zero.

4. Radiant Citadel - Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel is a collection of pre-written adventures created exclusively by people of color. The Radiant Citadel itself acts as a central location for the adventures but can easily be dropped into any homebrew campaign as an interesting hub for your party. Plopping this right into the new Spelljammer setting (more on that later) is a perfect match.

3. Dragonlance - Even with over 150 novels set in Krynn there is still room for new stories to be told. The backdrop of war allows for diverse character storylines. There is limited access to healing magic making it perfect for survival and travel heavy campaigns.

2. Exandria - There are already two full campaign books available and with Critical Role's third campaign steamrolling over an entirely new continent there is likely a third already in the works. Whether you watch or listen to Critical Role or not you will find interesting locations and hooks with rich lore and backstories. The Vestiges of Divergence alone are enough to fuel an entire campaign.

1. Spelljammer - The newest setting on this list but the hype and excitement have been building for a long time. It was originally released as an Advanced Dungeons & Dragon (2nd Edition) setting. Spelljammer ships and the cosmic horrors that exist in Wildspace are easily placed in any campaign setting to make a world and threats feel much larger instantly. Space Clowns, Vampire Pirates, the husks of dead gods all waiting to be fought and explored. Attune and set sail, in a manner of speaking. The Astral Sea awaits.
